STATEMENT

Hiroki Tashiro is a wood carving artist who has been expressing boldly conceived animal figures with a strong sense of dynamism and vitality in traditional sculpture methods, making wood carvings and applying color to their surface. He aims to connect each thought or sense of viewers by expressing “Inside” such as sceneries he sees in everyday life, cycle of the seasons he feels and conflicting feelings in his life as ‘figures (=Outside)’ on the surfaces of wood. He is also known for his drawings and paintings that have exactly the same world as his sculptures, and these works have been receiving great reputations as in the sculptures. Lately, he is moving on to a new expression beyond his popular animal figured wooden sculptures.
