KAZUHARU ISHIKAWA

STATEMENT

Born in Nara, 1977. Graduated from Tama Art University in 2002.
Kazuharu Ishikawa is an artist of ‘line’ who draws with ‘yarn’. His work is based on simple drawings that he does wherever he goes – he always takes a sketchbook and pens with him and catches casual scenes as simple lines. He then re-creates ‘impromptu lines’ by using threads and gluing them onto ‘new sites’ – canvases, plexiglass, walls and windows etc.
Received bronze medal at GESAI#9 in2006.

His installations in public areas are especially popular, such as on an outside wall of private house in the art island Naoshima, Kagawa and on inside walls at Hostel in Kotobuki-cho, Yokohama etc. He also does ‘’Journey of the Line Project’’, a project where Ishikawa goes to various places in the world to create installations, and he aims for his line to be able to connect people all over the world beyond any borders. His activities are getting wider and wider – he has made work for the company PR of TOYOTA, provided work for the concert flyer of Shuntaro Tanikawa (very famous Japanese poet), and more.
