STATEMENT
Shiori Kawamoto is a photographer who picks photographic subjects from mainly scenes of our everyday life under the keywords ‘time’, ‘atmosphere’ and ‘the fact I was there’ over photographs. He has a unique sense of ‘distance’ between the subject regardless of whether it is a human or scenery. Although he sometimes is evaluated as a “relaxed type” because of his style – which is as if taking one scene from our daily life with snap shot based technique regardless of locations or studios – he says “I am trying to face my subject calmly and silently.” as we can see from the title of his solo exhibition in 2008 “MIMI WO SUMASU (listen carefully)”. He crisscrosses borders of art, music, design, fashion and subculture and lately, he is especially interested in taking photos of AKIBA(Akihabara) and AKIBA-based idols, who work there, and these works are receiving attention. His activities are getting wider as ‘REAL IDOL ZUKAN’, a photo book of AKIBA-based idols taken by Kawamoto, has just been published.
