TAIHEI
''startbahn''
Dec 16,17(Fri,Sat), 2011

YUKARI ART is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition 'startbahn' by Taihei. The show will open for 2 days, on December 16 and 17, 2011 at our gallery’s space in Meguro, Tokyo.

Taihei was born in Tokyo and spent his early years in the USA. Around 2003, he started to present his artworks on the theme, “art in the Internet age.” He has been engaged in wide-ranging activities including not only “art projects on the web” but also “exhibitions at real spaces” such as museums, art galleries and restaurants at home and abroad.

The exhibition’s title “startbahn” has to do with the name of Taihei’s “art project on the web,” which he plans to start trial operation at the beginning of 2012 after the five long years’ elaboration of the idea. The artist Taihei enthusiastically speaks, “startbahn” is a platform for “art of the Internet age” involving all the people engaged in art today and in the future. For the sake of a sustainable function of art in the future, this project not only revitalizes the existing art industry but also rises to diverse challenges of the art world inside and outside the country. In addition, this project provides a basic environment to create and lead a new paradigm of “art of the Internet age.” In this exhibition, “startbahn,” which is a web project presented by an artist for all art fans, will be presented and introduced in a “real space,” a gallery, where you can meet “starbahn” with its concept and image.

A Comment from the Artist:

Some say that the period from now until 2030 is an initial stage of the information revolution when we are to prepare its infrastructure. Understanding this “flexible” situation as a good opportunity, I, as an artist, tried to establish a concept how I could pioneer future art. Then I decided to start with constructing a “suitable environment for art” which is “optimized for the Internet technology.”

It is my dream that one day big art movements, star players, diverse artworks and art stories will be born from “starbahn.” And above all, I hope that this project will remind you of that exciting feeling you had when you first experienced the Internet. Furthermore, I desire “starbahn” will become an influential project to evoke a concrete image of the “possibility of art in the future.”
