Akira YOSHIDA is going to exhibit at "ART OSAKA 2022".
Enjoy short movies below which Yoshida himself is introducing the brand new works for the upcoiming artfair.
Message from the artists:
It is a "dog" and a "papier-mâché".
I use traditional Japanese handicraft Inu hariko, a paier-mâché dog as my motif.
In my artwork, the dog papier-mâché is used as a symbol of "emptiness" ”superficial" "cosmetics' and so on.
On top of the dog shaped sculpture which is empty inside, I paint traditional Japanese patterns and urban landscapes to express contemporary Japan ironically.
My understanding of "current Tokyo" is a mixture of Japanese and Western cultures, and also contains the fragility of modern cities in general.
I have captured and expressed these through my artworks.
