Shintaro OHATA
Statement
Shintaro OHATA (born 1975, Hiroshima, Japan) is a Japanese painter who captures every form of ‘light’ surrounding us. He portrays ordinary things in our daily lives as though they are scenes of a movie. He is also renowned for his unique style in which he combines paintings and sculptures to make one piece of artwork. The artist says "By doing so, I believe that viewers can feel the atmosphere of my works more vividly and dynamically. I had been seeking a way to give more realistic feel to my pieces without changing my painting style, and then I got inspired by the painting in the backgrounds of film and theatre. This was when I came up with the idea of making sculpture which pops out of painting." Discovering his one and only style of combining 2D and 3D, around 2005, became one of the most significant turning points in his career. OHATA's artworks have been well received and appreciated by large public beyond borders. His solo museum exhibition in ERARTA Museum of Contemporary Art in St. Petersburg in 2021 was a great success.
